Hello everyone, my boat has what looks like anodised window frames. These are looking a little soiled now and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to clean them up. I have not used an abrasive cleaner for fear of damage to the finish. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem and so I made enquiries with the window manufacturer at the time (N.C.Bjerg of Denmark, now Ertec as I remember).
They pointed me in the direction of a special cleaner for anodised aluminium that is only available in Germany. Since nothing else seemed to work I ordered some in the end (something like 15 euros a couple of years back) and gave it a try - actually it worked quite well.
I still have some on the boat, so I'll take a look at what it's called for you the next time I go down (it was something like Oxal Reininger or something like that - although my German's not really good ;o)

Cheers,
Paul

This is the stuff I was referring to;

Almunium Eloxal-Reiniger
Address: Chemal, Katschmarch GmbH & Co
Posfach 7150 59028 Hamm, Germany
Tel: (+49) (0)2385 91010-0
Web: http://www.chemal.com)
Email: info@chemal.com

They are an industrial supplier, so I had to buy a "sample" bottle, unless you want 50 gallons of the stuff ;o)

Incidentally, it works like a cutting compound, removing a thin layer, so don't overuse it or you'll remove the anodising layer completely - this was the warning that the window manufacturers gave me.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Paul
