Will I need a passerelle (gang plank)for med

Yes you will need one, and yes you will have to provide it yourself.

Most of the chanldlers stock them, depending on what you want, you can use a plank of wood, have a folding aluminium one or if you want to break the bank get an hydaulic/electronic/with remote control and self folding handrail, courtesy lights, teak flooring and two nubiles to greet you, rub you down and hand you drinks as you board (well I assume thats what you get for the price you have to pay).

Congrats on reaching the Med and thanks for the interesting updates. Have a great summer

Alistair

I looked for a UK source before I took the boat out to Majorca and never found one, you could try some of the Solent chandleries (Marine Superstore, Aladdins Cave).

Alternatively I can get you a price from Majorca, shipping would be expensive but later in the year I could probably bring one back - can't do it until September at the earliest though as I am shifting a few heavy things about myself and probably won't have sufficient baggage allowance

Is today still the the day?

You've forgotten the essential pot plants which are de rigeur for a proper passarelle and the flunkie who removes your deck shoes before boarding

You can maybe take a pic of yours the next time you are out, so as i can see if its what i'm after, we are not looking for anything too big.

Its typical i saw one advertised a few months ago, and thought it would be perfect for a mate to get his dogs on and off on their own, but he didn't buy it, Now with the new boat coming, thats what we need it for, and i can't remember where i saw it!!!!

Today, is still the day, Supposedly around 2.30pm, all fingers and tows crossed.

Cheers

Ali.

Looks like Burton Waters (Lincoln) may be the place then!. They are a main Sealine agent so may even be able to advise on fitting.

Never heard of a marina supplying a gangplank. I think you were lucky. You need a passarelle definitely. Have you got davits? In which case the davit supplier might supply a gangway which can be raised and lowered using the davit wires like this Whittall or this Simpson (click on gangways)
Alternatively buy a simple one from a chandlery but its a good idea to have wheels as the boat moves and the quay generally does'nt

I've sent you an e-mail with photos , for your boat I think a similar size one to mine would be perfect, you just need to work out where to fit it.

Just have a stole down the pontoon. You will see that the regulars are probably useing the same local make. I had a simple Al folding one fitted in La Napoule and it was about €500 but it looks reasonably smart and will do until I can bring myself to fork out for a Besenzoni (Sp?)

Think everything has already been covered.

But Yes , you will definitely need one. Pontoons , both floating and solid, come at a variety of heights. Bear that in mind when you buy one from a swindelry. Wheels and a solid hook up in a variety of positions are necessary as is flexible extension. You'll be lucky to get a hydraulic fitted 'immediately' at this time of year unless you find a very helpful swindelry- leccy.

Some people occasionally carry 'Custom Steps' which go down from pontoon to bathing platform which have a variety of fitting devices for attaching to pontoon/marina but only ever heard of them being custom-made and not common. If you will be in same berth all summer they can be permanently attached obviously.

Calibra something or other, used to be in Dartmouth, now elsewhere, do a search, they do aluminium wood folding ones, where I got mine!

Since SWMBO have both sampled the delights of your passarelle along with HLB, that's not really much of a recommendation, methinks. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
