Will a winch handle work on a fuel filler?

Found it impossible to remove the filler caps at the weekend. The stupid plastic key thing just didn't have enough leverage.

We borrowed an adjustable winch handle from a very helpful raggie and that did the trick. Would most winches have the same star pattern as the standard fuel fillers?

A light smer of Vaseline on the thread will keep it running though - the small star handle should work always!

Yes, be very careful if using winch handle. Very easy to overtighten and destroy the thread on the cap.

are the screw caps some sort of metal? if so a few direct taps straight down on top with a hammer will have the desired effect of loosening them.

Just hold the winch handle in the middle when tightening...
