What's that then ?
Fixed it for youAnywhere outside the Solent!
If that's wild how do you define Scotland's Outer (or even Inner) Islands - or Tasmania?
And if these places host 'wild' what term to you use for Greek Islands?
When I was that little bit younger your current use of the word 'wild' (slowly creeping into Oz) would have been met with puzzlement and then raucous laughter. The late D of E would surely have laughed if he had know he was encouraging 'wild' camping.
Who coined the usage...?
Not an answer but

I can't remember exactly , but along the lines of launching say an engineless Wayfarer in remote areas camping ashore etc. But that always existed anyway. Probably just a rebranding following wild swimming wild camping etc. I was interested if anyone might know a different format.I don't know who "coined the usage", but the term 'wild camping" is used in literature describing individual rights from the Scottish Right to Roam legislation. The term differentiates between camping on a camp site and camping elsewhere. For example, Right To Roam legislation allows wild camping on anyones land (there are obligations on the land owner and camper). In the National Parks, wild camping is prohibited between Apri
No idea about wild sailing. Likely post 6, is correct.
To the OP - where did you see the phrase?
That means I keep my boat in a wild harbour then.Wild used to be associated with wilderness, somewhere where there was little human activity, no infrastructure, where the nearest human contact could be miles away.
...... Today it means there isn't an on-site restaurant or a clean well-maintained toilet block with showers.

I’ll go with that. It’s a pretty meaningless phrase but to me it brings to mind sailing away from the presence of ports and marinas. Parts of the UK could be described as such but generally one would have to go further abroad. I don’t think that ocean sailing counts as there isn’t much out there to bump into.We have an area along out East cast that is called the wild coast and from a sailing you have a south flowing current of about 5 Kn an am can get northerly winds . The wild coat ha no bolt oles and you need good weather to sail that coast. If you do get court out the only option is to go way offshore.
Its a good diving spot due to the wrecks along the coast
Sailing the wild coast in my view is wild sailing

So wild sailing would be spending your night at anchor, not in a marinaI don't know who "coined the usage", but the term 'wild camping" is used in literature describing individual rights from the Scottish Right to Roam legislation. The term differentiates between camping on a camp site and camping elsewhere. For example, Right To Roam legislation allows wild camping on anyones land (there are obligations on the land owner and camper). In the National Parks, wild camping is prohibited between April and October and only camping at camp sites is allowed. The term has it's use.
I doubt the former D of E will be laughing as wild camping is allowed on Balmoral. There has been outrage expressed from the rangers at the mess left by some people.
No idea about wild sailing. Likely post 6, is correct. The way things are going with potential restrictions on activities in the UK waters, controlled sailing may become the norm. I despair.

seriously beaten by seconds I think we're right though, its just new speak making something normal seem daring and excitingSo wild sailing would be spending your night at anchor, not in a marina
Only daring and exciting if you are using the 'wrong' sort of anchor. Discuss, seriously beaten by seconds I think we're right though, its just new speak making something normal seem daring and exciting
