The answer is of course that crew members on a yacht are there for the sailing and crew members on a motorboat are there for the social aspect.
Unless they're fishing, it seems they are involved in a dubious passage.

Any mobo can appear gay, given the right colour scheme or crew trousers. But some yachts could never be gay. I think it's very affirming of homosexuality.

Somebody mentioned two lesbians on a boat. We saw two many years ago on a 25 foot Sunsail flotilla boat. They were both about 18 stone and when one got on the boat it would heel about 30 degres. When both were on the boat we reckoned the draft inreased by about ten inches. It was difficult not to be seen laughing.

One of the more prominent boats among the double handers is sailed by a couple of girls, very pleasant ones by the way, and the skipper has been known to complain ‘Why is that 2 blokes sailing together are mates but 2 girls are automatically dykes?' Discuss.

Yes, we've commented on this. A boat with blokes on is seen as just blokes who enjoy sailing, whereas, we say if it was a caravan with blokes then you would think they were gay.
