Why don't you like Mobo's?

Kelly's Eye - your postion is toatally untenable at every level -
You are are bound by a thousand years of moral and legal code to assist ANY fellow seaman in distress. It doesn't matter if you like them or not. Just admit it so we can all move on.

I have been long distance cruising, delivery skipper, yachtmaster and a RIB instructor. I have a fair bit of experience in various parts of the world.

I find it totally unacceptable and against the basic codes of seamanship and humanity to fail to assist another vessel in distress if it is possible to do so without endangering my own vessel or crew.

Absolutely. Tom Dudgeon did his best to rescue the Hullabaloos in Titmouse, even though it would have meant serious trouble for him.

Errm...

I know it's often just a few inconsiderates, but this is just plain dumb...

That's exactly the sort of thing that, had it happened here, would have led to licences and qualifications for all, so that they can be taken away if necessary.

He should be locked up for whatever variant on negligent manslaughter the local law provides, and I don't think you'll find anyone (MoBo owner or otherwise) that would suggest much different.

Jamie

And yes I'd still pluck his sorry ass out of the water if he was on the bow of the hypothetical sinking SunSeeker.

>So what you are saying is that if said SunSeeker was in Spanish Waters, Curacao, you'd leave them to die?

Only if they had done what I described. I have to say I have never seen a Sunseeker behaving badly.

>What a MoBo would have to do to be considered blacklisted

You still aren't reading what I said, I've made that clear already.

>What possible justification is there for refusing to stop in two discrete areas where you dislike the seamanship (or consideration, whatever term you use)

As above.

>fully re-state your position to clarify who exactly you would leave for dead.

Why don't you just look back. There are only two things so it's not exactly difficult.

Ok, so you are backtracking on the geographic criteria, good. Maybe that was a bit of bluster that you now realise made you look silly. Fair enough, I appreciate the strength of character it shows to admit you were wrong.

Now we're only left with the"things you have described".

I'll ignore the red herring about the type of boat, unless you are suggesting that there are criteria on what type of MoBo????

I have looked back. As have other people. No-one has come forward to defend you and refute my reading of your words, not a single person. This suggests that a plain English reading gives a meaning which you clearly don't see, but everyone else does.

We can play this back and forth game all day, but as I have suggested before, to prevent any further confusion and damage to your reputation, I suggest you fully re-state your position to clarify your meaning more clearly.

Humour us.

I admire your tenacity flying penguin!
its clear that kelly's eye has had a bit of a silly rant which he doggedly stands by, making him look even more silly. If he wants to stand by his "no assistance" posturing he shows himself as a hundred times more worthless as a sailor than the the most irresponsible mobo skipper that ever existed. If that's how he wishes to be seen - so be it.

Well it's more interesting than an afternoon in the office! :)

I have no particular desire to prove one way or another. Either we get to "yes, I had a bit of a silly rant and it wasn't really serious", in which case it's all good and we put it down to a bit of "keyboard warriorism", or "no, I actually wouldn't stop in the following circumstances", in which case we can all decide whether we agree or not and make our own assessments of him. Either is fine with me.

I just don't like it when people avoid the question. I can be a persistent sod.....

I haven't backtracked on anything. At the beginning I made it very clear I wouldn't help in two very specific areas for two very specific reasons. It strikes me that you've attempted to up the emotional stakes and critcism by saying I would leave people to die. How many Mobos die hitting a reef or sinking for example. Perhaps you could give a recent range of examples.

An interesting thread with the odd schizo thrown in, well ok, one schizo. What the feck is Kellyseye on? If you could bottle it the junkies(not boaty types that sail Junks) would be willing to pay a fortune.

Kellyseye...............please do me a big favour........when I finally take to the seas remind me of where you sail mostly and in which pubs you drink, just so I can take every possible step to avoid you. You are one very mixed up person.

You said you wouldn't stop, then you realised it made you look like a fool and then said you would. Sounds very much like backtracking to me. You are refusing to directly answer very simple, very direct questions. You are introducing red herrings like they are going out of fashion. You realise you look a fool but are too stubborn to admit it. You are squirming. Which would be ok IF we didn't know who you are.

At the beginning I made it very clear I wouldn't help in two very specific areas for two very specific reasons.

Ok, so we've flipped back to both geographic and behavior criteria. Unless you state explictly otherwise, I take it from this you would NOT stop for the hypothetical Sunseeker in Spanish Waters.

It strikes me that you've attempted to up the emotional stakes and critcism by saying I would leave people to die.

"I swore that if a Mobo was in trouble I would not go to help"

Your words mate, not mine. You do not specify anywhere what type of help you are refusing. So my assumption, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that you wouldn't give any assistance. Therefore you would not stop in a life threatening situation. This may only be a subset of the possible accidents that may happen, but it's the important one.

How many Mobos die hitting a reef or sinking for example. Perhaps you could give a recent range of examples.

Don't know, it's not relevant to the discussion (see above) so I don't care. It's a red herring and nothing more than a diversionary tactic from you.

Answer my questions and we can get on with our lives.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I suggest you fully re-state your position to clarify your meaning more clearly.

you're right - I admit it makes a damn good read! As a mobo'er/stinkie I admit a vested interest and pleasure in his present discomfort.
of course as a stinkie I would never assist a yacht in distress if his halyards were flapping!

Handbags starting at twenty paces?

what's not to like about mobos

I love to sail through washes - the bigger and steeper the better

I love to hear the gentle purr of twin cats

and I love the people and their cheery bonhomie
