I think it depends on how you use the boat. In circumstances which demand radar operation (fog, etc), I'm quite likely to be motoring anyway, so heel won't be a big problem.

The beam pattern on these small radar antennae is pretty wide in the vertical axis - the boat has to be pretty heavily heeled before it has much effect. The electronics can filter out the short range noise from the reflection off the water right next to the boat.

You can get wind and fog at the same time! By sailing, you can hear more than with the engine running - if it's anything like mine.

True but, as I said, it depends on how you use the boat. I'm often single-handed, so if I'm in fog I'll motor because it's easier to maintain a decent lookout.

To get back to the original question.
- There is a limited market for the product
- It is expensive to manufacture something strong enough, and with our stupid fit for purpose legislation why risk your business on this. The cost of product liability insurance is killing our industrial entrepreneurship.

I should have mentioned but I am looking for one that goes on a radar arch so it should be even simpler to manufacture i.e. two plates with a tube welded between them, and some holes.
Limited market yes but liability compared to an anchor for example?
