Went out to Kent yesterday (about 170 miles each way) and my Garmin GPS72 didn't find a single satelite all day. To make things worse I left my road map in my study - lucky I knew where I was going.

So own up - whose nicked 'em.

How do you change batteries in a Satelite - must have a long ladder /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

I think you make a rope out of zips, they are always telling us how many times to and from the moon the earths zips can go, so there must be plenty to lassoo a satelite.

Was it very overcast?

is it working now?

Does the unit need line of sight to the sat or not - guess it does.

I find that under tree cover and in built up areas it can loose the sats.
Also is seems to be ok throgh glass, but doesnt like bricks and mortar, I dont have enuf GRP on my boat to see if it has a probelm inside a deep cabin.

Very nice little unit tho

SENSIBLE RESPONSE:

If you haven't used it for a long time, the stored almanac of satellite orbits becomes so out of date the satellites are not where the receiver expects and it can't find them. You need to look in your instructions for the method of "re-acquiring the almanac", a process that can take up to 40 minutes.

Hope this helps.
