Who represents Galeon boats in the uK now?

galeon

If you visit www.galeon.pl it will bring up there web site,if you click on the English link and then go to dealers. I believe the only dealership is in Ireland at the moment. Pentoon Hook where a sub dealer for a time selling on behalf of a independent importer. When I spoke to Chris Manners about taking on the dealership,he said that he would have to commit to buy a lot of boats in order to secure the dealership rights for the UK.

Isn't that just the way of it at the moment, unfortunately many EU builders have a distorted view of what the UK market is like/ worth at the moment. They look up the stats on IBI or get info from BMF and see it is the Third largest market in Europe but of course that info is all out of date now by about 2 years. At the moment the UK is one of the smallest markets for imported product. The home builders are extremely aggressive with their discounting and with the Euro / pound rate on its bum there is just no way any premium builder can break the UK. For some reason they (EU) builders can not figure out why the UK is one of the toughest at the moment and want to base units on what they are achieving in other territories in the current climate. That is all well and good but those markets haven't seen the price of their product rocket 30% in 18 months because of FX rates. The numbers just don't stack up and I am afraid it will be the same for most importers and unless they have a more understanding relationship with their principles who are willing to support a weak market with extra discount and lower volume many will not see another year in the UK.

I went through similar discussions last year with some of the European manufacturers that my company represents. It is very difficult for them to understand how a mature market like the UK can go from hero to near zero in less than a year, particularly since the UK is supposed to be the 4th biggest economy in the world. Luckily for me, my major competitors are also European rather than UK based so have suffered the same £/€ hit and also, in my industry, there are detailed export statistics which allow manufacturers to compare their sales in every market so they can see for themselves that UK sales have declined for everybody. I am also fortunate that I have relationships with some of my manufacturers going back many years so this is the 3rd recession we've been through together and, yes, I have asked for and got additional discounts and other inducements to promote sales.
I'm sorry to hear that you've had a parting of the ways with Absolute. I expect that they'll live to regret it

I am sure some peeps on the forum will get a rest from the Abs banther but :P

yes I heard some news of terrible unseen discounts from the British builders this year which added with the UK£ weakness made it unbeatable for everybody
on the other hand the UK boat builders are suffering huge sales declines in the Scandinavia area, with a drop of British boating exports in the region of 65%
to my knowledge this is the British builders biggest market share, especially for Princess and Fairline

Galeon has a valuable product, and in the last four years has seen some tremendous improvement
if you would tell me which builders have made the bigger step since the start of the new millenium I would put Galeon in second place, beaten only by Sessa
if one was interested I would explain them the real world UK situation and move on from there
I think that the UK£ will get stronger in the coming months, especially if banks continue to recover and I would see 80 pence to have a value of a One EURO by begining of 2010...
but LOL I am no economist and might be totally wrong on this

I dont understand that, PY. If the weakness of the £ has made the british builders so much cheaper, why are they losing market share in Scandinavia? Is the overall market declining or just the British share?

I hope you're right about the £/€ rate but I don't think you are. The Bank of England has all but come out and said that they want to see the £ remain low in order to keep UK exports as competitive as possible and I think the markets have now got that message

as I said I am no economist so I could be totally wrong
UK exports? is the UK producing much of anything in the last years

Scandinavia markets are down, plus people negative thinking of the future compared to 2007 and so on
in Malta Fairline delivered a record breaking 9 new boats so far in 2009, with the rumour saying more to come
2 38 Targa, 2 55 Squadron, 2 52 Targa GT, 1 64 Targa GT, 1 48 Phantom, 1 47 Targa GT
considering it is an island with 400.000 people that is a record
