Arvor boats and TDI inboards

I'm keen on the idea of a small Arvor but I read somewhere that if you are a potterer who rarely uses a boat at full whack having a TDI inboard may not be for you. Something to do with 'VVT'?

Is there some truth in this?

It's true the vains can stick due to carbon deposit i had a vvt on a volvo d3 but use to belt it never had a problem their is a spray you can use which some people have used called Chesterton which I hear is very good

It is a known issue on the TDI’s but as mentioned, a regular check and lubrication prevents problems. It is getting slightly harder to get some spare parts now if it’s based on the VW variant.

My father has a Arvor with the VW engine.
Yes the vanes can stick in the turbo and if it happens, when the turbo spins up it will send a warning to the Engine and it will go into limp home mode.
My brother found some spray, I guess the same as above and spraying them start and end of the season seems to have stopped the problem.
If you're only ever pottering, you'll never see the problem.
Other than that the engines have been problem free.
