Yep, I had a devil of a time replacing a self-aligning bearing last year.
I got the thing apart after taking the boat out of the water and releasing a bolt where the prop shaft exits the boat underwater, which was holding everything in place. If I had only known beforehand!!!
I can post pictures of the process if you like.
The boat is a one-off. That's why she had a strange set up. She sails like a dream now. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

You are forgetting buddy that you are one of many people giving and getting advice and encouragement from this forum. You are one of the 'they' you are talking about. If you are hoping for some kind of mention in despatches then you are going to be disappointed. If some one comes up with a problem I am only too happy to help if I can. If I have a problem and need help I ask for it and appreciate it just like anybody else. You sound like you are feeling a bit precious!
