I can find precious little on the the Lewmar Whitlock site to explain what the differences are between their various models. Can anyone explain what the differences are between 3, 3R, 5R, 6, 6R.? Have these been superceded?

Anyone got an old brochure they can scan please?

I've got a Word doc from somewhere with details on changing the Bearings on a 5R, which includes a scanned blown up diagram and some maintenace tips.
If its any use, PM me your email address and I'll flick 'em across.

They've all been superceded now. Each one was superceded by the next. i.e. 3/3R superceded by 4/4R superceded by 5/5R etc.

Very minor adjustments, changes in materials used mainly between 3 and 5. The 4 series had a greasing nipple for the lower bearing. I think the 6 was first to use the front brake spinner as opposed to the knob on the side and had the downshaft pinned to the top quadrant.

The "R" means it was a version with a quicker ratio for a more responsive helm.

However, all now obsolete and replaced with the current pedestal line-up, of which the Enguard with Cobra (Rack & Pinion) internals would be the closest match to the older range.

Hope this helps!!

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks.I found that document before but I didn't even know what I had. I now know I have a 6 or 6R with some missing bits, it's never been used. I was thinking of cannibalism, anyone on here with a Whitlock on their boat in N Wales ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If its nearly complete sell it. We paid good money for an unused one a year ago. The bits we didn't need have been sold on to help other yachties. Cliff is a font of knowledge on them. Check out the prices of new ones too.
