which folding Prop for Mk1 Moody 33

And without having read all the above posts I can say that I have owned three 2 bladed folding propellers on different boats. A Flexofold, a Radice and a Goril. First choice is the Flexofold, second the Gori. Never again the Radice which is the clunkiest and most vibratory thing in the world.

Get a Flex 0 Fold. Our boat was supposed to have been supplied with one but it turned out to be a Volvo and we sometimes struggled to make decent headway against a stiff breeze in a chop. I looked into it and was referred to a (now fairly old ) German comparitive test article which found the Flex o Fold had 35% more " bollard pull " than the Volvo. Best investment I have made in the boat, performance was transformed, like going up an engine size, lower revs for the same speed.
It was a while ago now but I found the manufacturers very helpful in sizing the prop, Not forgetting to make sure it is the correct hand.
I attach a pdf of the relevant graph, The title translates as "Maximum achievable bollard pull "

I also found an English prop test article but Volvo were not included. The pdf files are too large to attach but if you pm me we could sort to send you by email

Very interesting stuff. (y)

I actually have a very underpowered yacht and I know the pain of incorrect engines and props.

Our J109 35ft and 4.5 tons only has a VP2020 20hp driving a 15x10 folder.

In flat calm 5.5 knots achievable. In a breeze it’s 4.5 and in serious weather it’s down to 3 knots.

About to re engine her with a 30hp and 16x11. I’ll be happy if she can do 6 knots!

The purpose of the post was to get a rough idea if there was anything like a kiwi prop since technology has moved on since some of the moody 33 posts I’ve read were written. Some info I’ve gleaned is from 20 years ago.

So far the best option seems to be a new 3 blade fixed prop for the moody.
Before buying a new engine check the prop, see my other reply post. Our Elan 333 has a 2020 and the new prop makes her so much better. If you have a Volvo prop try changing that first.

She is the only boat of her type as far as I know fitted with a 20hp.

I bought a 30hp and a 2nd hand prop from an identical boat that re engined from Volvo to Yanmar.

All will be well (y)
