which cylinder is number 1?

looking at doing the tappets on a 6 cylinder volvo engine - I have always assumed cylinder number 1 is the cylinder farthest from the flywheel end of the crank. Is this correct ???

(and cylinder number 6 is next to the flywheel end etc)

I thought No.1 was nearest the flywheel, but am probably wrong (as usual).

The Number 1 cylinder is the forward most cylinder.

Agreed no1 at opposite end of crankshaft to flywheel. Also if it ever says left or right hand side that is as if looking from the flywheel end of the engine.

Fwd and aft are probably not the best way to describe it. The same engine could be on a v drive, in which case the aft cylinder would be no 1

In which case your engines are backwards

No 1 at the front , 153624 is firing order , turn engine over to no 6 valves rocking set no 1 , you can't go wrong
