Hello - I looking for a phone app for my android phone which use my phone as a very basic GPS (position, speed, course over ground) and allows for 1 or 2 waypoints to be added. No mapping functions really necessary.

I have looked at a couple which seem mega complicated!! Just looking for something which does what my 10 yr old GPS did.

Thanks

I have had a look at GPS Essentials - and set up a waypoint - but how do you 'go to' that waypoint? Confused here...... ideally looking for something with less functions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MX Mariner is really good but perhaps more complicated than you're looking for. It's a chart plotter app but the main interface gives you position, cog, sog etc. I find it really useful.

Looks great but uk charts are in-app puchases, I already have the same charts downloaded as part of memory-map , can they be reused, if not whats the cost as the website doesnt say?

I don't know about using memory map charts but the in app chart sets are about £4. The set i bought covers all of Wales most of western England and eastern Ireland, so they are very good called value.

What about Boatie?

I've used it for years on iPhone but I believe there is an Android version too.

It's £5 and execllent value. Will do COG, SOG, bearing and sistance to user-added waypoint. Also has weather (inc synoptiics), tides and tide flow atalass for the solent plus a bunch of reference pages. This is on the iPhone version - you might want to double check that the Android version has all the features you need.

If you only want the GPS funcions just ignore the other tabs

I've just downloaded this (MX Mariner) and the charts that cover cornwall's south coast, it looks to be pretty straght forward to use and for £10 for the programme and chart it's pretty good value. I allways carry charts for the area I'm sailing and have a chart plotter but you never know - it might come in handy.

Hi try Mad Mutt Marine, it's written by one of the professors at Plymouth University, there are 2 versions 1 paid for the other free, both good and simple to use, I have it on Android devices don't know if it is on Apple.
