Whereisit

The ‘old wash/laundry house’ on Marconi’s jetty. It used to be the laundry for the guys in the military during the war servicing landing craft…. Hence the rather splendid launching ramp/hard they have there.
Wow !
And I always thought that it was perhaps a pilot hut or some kind of toll booth.
Did wonder about the size of the chimney.

It goes back before the war to the 19th century - when a watch vessel was anchored in the river. The white hut was the laundry for officers' wives.
The splendid all-tide "hard" at the club does indeed stem from the time when torpedo boats used to re-arm there, and needed a solid base. Until recently rails running down the hard were still visible.
