we were there in the boat a couple of years ago. The island has a double identity - St Martin is full of wealthy parisians in posh frocks drinking buckets of champers but outside the town it is a lovely quiet rural traditional community. We felt scruffy in St Martin in our deck shoes and shorts - it seemed to require white fannels as standard yachting gear! But the island was blighted a couple of years ago by a terrible muder of a girl walking home from St Martin to her village; terrible incident.
