Where/what is it.

The old test tank behind Faslane in Glen Fruin is no longer used and the army use the grounds for training. I used to maintain some computer kit there and was present when they did some test firings of a scale model of a new torpedo from the model of the bows of a nuclear sub. Very impressive but the glass tiles the wall was made of used to leak and the tank was filled from a burn up in the hills.

Interestingly, I pass the tank on my way to/from the boat.

My old man was reminiscing recently when I mentioned I had put an offer in on a house on Loch Long.

There was a torpedo testing range on Loch Long (the remains are still there ) and during the war the odd torpedo would arrive in the dining room of the Ardmay Hotel........

Not a hotel any more. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My father was torpedoed during the war. He was on an AA battery on an island in the middle of Tobruk harbour one night when a torpedo came out of the water and slid up the beach, coming to a stop a few feet from his gun. The next day Italian radio claimed to have sunk a large warship.
