I like the idea of something like a Raymarine C70, GPS and radar and perhaps AIS. I also think it makes sense to have it where it can be seen while helming.

But, I have a tiller, not a wheel, and so nice binnacle to put the thing on.
I could put it on the coach roof, but I prefer not to have a spray hood up if possible, so it would be rather exposed there.

The bulkhead does not really work as, on a Storm, it will be hit by the winch handle if up high, and would be too low to use the buttons if below that.

So I was wondering if anyone has and ideas.

I did wonder about somehow attaching it to the push-pit, maybe on a short double hinged arm, so that it could be swung into position opposite the helmsman, has anybody seen such a set up?

Someone had the idea of a pantograph/Anglepoise arm mounted in the companion way. It's then possible to have it in the cockpit somewhere or fold it inside to be visible from the chart table.

It isn't in the same league as you'd need, but I made a ply box trimmed with "mahogany" that clips onto the companionway hatch for my instruments - depth, log, GPS and compass. It sits quite happily there and has never moved at sea, but I can bring them below if Jissel's unattended for a couple of hours.

The leads all plug into the box protected behind a door, safe from the weather, which means when I leave the boat on the mooring, the instruments come home with me.

I made this for my plotter which makes it possible to use inside or in the cockpit and meand I can keep an eye on my course etc while running on autohelm and making a cuppa.

I have seen the set up with instruments on an arm, or on a washboard, that fits into the companion way.

On a Storm the problem is that

(a) you will be about 6 feet from the screen, and my eye sight is not what it was!
(b) Difficult to control the buttons as they would be low as regards to the deck

That was why I was wondering about fixing it to the push-pit. Its strong enough, and, on the face of it, no more in the elements than a position on a binnacle would be. On an arm with, I think, three hinges, you could swing it so that it faced the helmsman.

But I have never seen a set up like this, and I cannot believe I am the first person to think of it.

What is odd is that none of the manufacturers seem to have given any thought to the placement of a multi instrument on a tiller steered boat at all

I have the GPS mounted on a hinged board at the side of the companion way just like CW. One idea is to have it held outside by a bungy. Then if it's pushed as people pass, the bungy just allows the movement.
