However you need to contrive a way to put him off for life. See if you can get one that keeps breaking down, then frustration will take over, get him on a saily boat (preferably something a bit hairy) and he'll be hooked for life.

Bye-Bye Jet Ski.

You never can tell with kids - #1 son could helm our humble 23 footer like a dream when he was 12 but "couldn't see the point of it". He's now 24 and about to return from a 7 month round the world trip (took off from the Cook Islands today for LA USA then home)and now he can't wait to "learn to sail properly". #1 stepson aged 10 (now 17) after arriving back on our mooring one very cold late October afternoon, sipping our customary hot choccie in the cockpit before we head for home in the dinghy, observing the deep red sun setting over the salt marshes at Mersea and recalling the seal we'd seen earlier in the Blackwater to our collective astonished amazement declared "You know, it doesn't get any better than this". I'll drink to that /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Do try to encourage a wind powered activity though - not a jetski ... !!

Seem to remember somewhere in Basildon, Essex that did this.

Have never been on one but can understand youngsters being interested. Anything motorised is liable to appeal.

I thought mopeds were great for about a day.

They give you an IQ test before they let you on one of those machines. One Chav was asked what Precocious was and he answered.....A Roman Emperor? I didn`t know sailors hated them too. Try flyfishing Loch Lomond with them buzzing around you. Like playing golf with trail bikes churning up the greens.

When I was sailing on the Endeavour ten years ago a couple of Jet Skiers appeared about four miles out in Liverpool Bay as we approached 'The Pool'.

I seem to remember a few requests to the captain to put real shot in the cannon. He was tempted I am sure.
