Blimey!

Its now been nearly two weeks on board, yesterday refitted the cockpit covers on our return to base after fab April sunshine - hot days and cool nights.

Went to Lymington on Thursday morning and saw 5/6 commercial boats / ferries but only one other leisure craft at sea??

The town quay was quiet as two alongside berths were free so moored on the mid steam pontoon (a favourite) and enjoyed the town and meal ashore etc.

The town area only got a bit busy late Friday afternoon. So where was everyone? Not a usual bank holiday at all and certainly we have had worse Wx and busier earlier holidays in the same places. Are people out of boating or 'running behind' due wet start of the year - its odd.

It's the luck of the weather, I think. Last weekend was perfect yet very few boats were out - guess they were not ready - and the past week was pretty nice too. However, the forecast for this weekend - especially today/Sunday - was a bit wet. We were fortunate to have taken the past week as holiday so had a really nice sunny time, and lots of space wherever we went, but will probably stay in Lymington for another night now.

That's interesting, we arrived Yarmouth on Thursday and it was packed and booked out for Easter, berthing master telling us and others we could only stay one night, we left Friday late morning and there was a queue waiting to get in, here at Weymouth not too busy, although no space on quay and some boats rafted four out,

In Yarmouth, been here since Friday morning. Now lots of boats left (lightweights!) so plenty of space although still quite a number of boats rafted up.

Leaving Monday for mercury & then home

Just back from our week long trip. It was fairly quiet until Friday;less than 10 boats at Bembridge and lots of space Tuesday/Wednesday at Yarmouth. Space also at Poole Quay but not on Friday night when it was chocabloc. Lots of mobos on the move yesterday.

Went to Sparkes on Thursday which was very quiet, Port Solent Friday and when we came to leave yesterday lunchtime had a battery issue that proved terminal so we all got the train then bus then another bus then train(engineering works) back to Lymington. Going to try and resolve the issue with new batteries in the week. I knew two of the batteries were a bit iffy so my own fault and also the battery link switch's not working. To replace batteries you have to lift the garage floor out which is a real PITA.
Had a great day in Gun Wharf Marina Friday just watching the world go by, lots of boats out and about.
Bright weather whilst we were out but chilly North Easterlies:(

Supposed to be out on the club cruise this weekend, but have no cooling system at the moment!
Been out a fair bit recently though, and the Medway has been very quiet, even on the odd, really beautiful days?

Steve, it is very breezy here in Portishead. I expect the Channel is very choppy, and you will be wind over tide if coming up from Cardiff with the tide.
.... And I hear there are dragons out there

It looks like the storm is due to pass over by 6pm, but I am probably going to delay until tomorrow.

Did a slow passage to Falmouth from Plymouth on Friday, lovely and sunny with a flat sea. Had a booking for Pendennis but checked out St Mawes buoys and it was very quiet, lots of spaces. Nice day on Saturday but today is cold and wet with blustery winds. Looks like it will be OK for the run back on Monday to drop guests off. May stay down if the end of the week weather picks up.

Just going past lee on solent. Brightening up and flat sea. Nice.

I've concluded that work commitments between SWMBO & I means around 1 weekend in 4 is available for boat. Similarly, around 1 weekend in 4 is suitable weather/tides... So for us, the two will coincide roughly every 16 weeks. We can to a degree juggle time off to improve those odds, but I have 3 occupations, SWMBO has 2 and holiday priority is for when Son is off school to minimise holiday club costs. Thus boating usually means planning weeks in advance and then of course it rains... This year we're planning more evening trips, but even then getting to the water to launch before 6:30 is unlikely (the plus side however is there's nobody to charge for the slipway). Change of boat will hopefully add some reliability to the mix too this year - plus the luxury of PTT should open up some solo opportunities! I hope so as I've just volunteered for some race marshalling too... :ambivalence:
