Well Northern France was abandoned after someone mentioned that the whole place will be shut for Easter. Or on strike if someone comes up with a reason.
So we tried Weymouth as although we occasionally used to stop in passing, never more than that. Assuming the town quay would be 30 deep at Easter we took a berth in the marina only to find the traffic noise is pretty intrusive, and the quay exploded to errr two deep rafting. Oh well.
Having half frozen to death on the way in via Mupe Bay, we tried...ohh no..Lulworth Cove... Mayhem.. one 18 ft in there. Took all my anchoring skills to squeeze in. Few more f/b turned up later and then it became a suntrap as it happened.
Headingfor Poole, I really couldnt be a@@sed to swing round the various headlands, only to find the races were a bit more lively..make that wet.. than anticipated. Good reminder.
One item to note... no wonder both Weymouth and Cobbs say they can fit you in...You can fit an Armada in. Cobbs has always struck me as one of the friendliest places on earth..nice, as it will is likely to be out marina in a while.
Weymouth Bridge.. ok maybe the antenna is a tad taller than I thought, but Poole I know if I stay between the girder and duck my head (antenna down) we can squueze through. Mildly concerned the HM was on the other side, but gone seem to be the days someone blasted at you over a tannoy.
Mildly lively and damn cold trip across Poole Bay.
We all know Sunday.
Pretty ok shakedown after the varous switches, controls, fuses, compressor leaks, tappet adjustments, frozen leg, faulty trim indicator, broken b/thruster switch, broken leg trim switch , engine service..and all that in 14 days of being afloat.
Everything seems to working as new now !!
Next escapade is as far west in Brittany as we can get, bearing in mind we also have to get back.
