Having fitted a time expired Allison C-20 to a 17ft Glastron......
Are you sure you want a Jet Engine? All thrust no mechanical propulsion?
or do you want a Turbine, no thrust and a mechanical output ?
The turbine will be cheaper.
You need to source these in bits which are no longer fit for flight, unless of course you need it for flight, in which case, you must have very deep (and full) pockets.
Phone the suppliers like H&S Aviation, or go to a military auction, but they wont really have anything Lear Jet size.
Youi canj have a trawl around the US General Aviation self builders - look up the stall holders at the Oshkosh show.
Another option would be to contact a builder of Tractor Drag racing vehicles, they use huge engines of very varied provenance.
[/ QUOTE ] What you need is a helicopter engine. I remember an article in one of the motorbike magazines 2 or 3 years back about an American company that built a bike using such a power unit. They are incredibly small for the power output and apparently last almost forever, you just need to change the oil occasionally.
I have to say that most sailboat owners considering converting to power, normally start out with reciprocating "piston" type engines, which are sufficient for speeds of up to 150mph.
