Should have gone to Alderney, the swinge at the top of the tide should have been enough.

It is a bit queer though as we often expect rough water off Start and Prawle points and Bolt Hd - especially when Springs are running. Today - nothing - far worse was to be found between Prawle and Salcombe Bar. Also there was a nasty little short chop, only 2 to 3 ft high in Lyme Bay which made returning home tiresome. Tried attacking it at an angle which seemed to make things worse - ended up meeting it on the nose either at 15-16 knots ( not bad, bit slow, occasional moderate crash into a trough ) or 24 knots ( better motion, more progress, occasional major crash into trough ) - appointment with dentist tomorrow.
This probably illustrates part of the enjoyment of boating - things never quite the same so sea states and winds can never be taken for granted
Did 80 odd miles and didn't see another mobo under way.

Ah but you did find that sloping water that the solent is so famous for. Surely having to complete hill starts was good training for the students.
