Hi my boats currently stored in a boat yard on the gairloch
I’m relatively new to this, my question is, when is it generally acceptable to get my boat back in the water and onto my mooring?
Is it too soon end of march? I’m chocking to get out again

Which Gare/Gairloch are you based at - the Clyde or further north.

If you use a mooring the key issue is often insurance - many insurers don’t cover on moorings from October-ish to end March. So need to check with them.

But we stay afloat on the Clyde all winter. Been some great sailing this year - in January, February and March. So never really “too soon”.
People often keep boats in a marina over the winter, when cheaper berths are available. This usually resolves the insurance issue.

Happy boating.

Our boat never came out this winter, quite a few boats in our marina stay afloat year round. Our boat was given 3 layers of antifoul a year ago February, she was put in the water in May and we bought her in July, she has done around 300km since last September when we sailed her home.

Engine service booked for next week, and awaiting finishing the varnishing of the wood work and hopefully ready for easter and a test run then, first official trip out will be 28 May to 2 June with the yacht club, 16 boats heading off for a short jaunt to Hasselt for a long weekend. Quite looking forward to it as the majority of the trip will be on canals without a speed restriction and I will be able to open the boat up a little bit 😈

Depends when you intend to start using it. There is no point launching on 01 April ( usual insurance date) Then leaving it to gather weed for 2 months because you only went out once then stayed at home due to bad, cold weather. Best to stay ashore until ready. On the other hand - get going & enjoy yourself. My boat sometimes seems to get less weed if used a lot.
