Heartens an old bristol channel sailor to see such mud. But its not Somerset though the tidal range seems substantial, so not sure where it might be
Yes, St Aubins. Much nicer than the brussel of St Helier plus a very friendly YC who served a good two course lunch and dinner for £25...l'm thinking Jersey.
I was taught that the tide 'goes out' and 'comes in' at seaside resorts. It gives you good wet sand for sandcastles as it 'goes out' then 'comes in' to wash them away. Surely as sailors we say 'falls' and 'rises' for vertical movement, and 'ebbs' and 'floods' for horizontal?
Unfold me that deckchair while I remove my collar, take off my socks and knot the corners of this handkerchief to keep the sun off my bald patch while I wait for the tide to come in.
Or am I hoplessley out of date in my terminology as I am in so many other areas of lfe?
Boats seem to sprout up from everywhere in JerseyMuch nicer than the brussel of St Helier
if he needs telling then should he really be allowed near a boat without supervision of a responsible adult?
So that is how you calibrate your log for speed over ground. I'm guessing, since you can see the legs, that this boat is restricted to a walking pace when sailing over dry(ish) land.
