When the Antartica melts completely in 20 years time.

I used to live at North Newbald by the Sea in the Yorkshire Wolds. Tide never came in much, but it was nice to sail in the York Estuary.

More like 200m at most

Even if all ice melts everywhere I think you'll find the absolute max level rise to be more like 200 metres, if that, rathr than 2,000. Of course 200 is bad enough but don't lose too much sleep. There's an awful lot of hype and hysteria in this global warming stuff. Yes, the world is getting slightly warmer but does it justify the high degree of alarm? Far from a scientific consensus on the issue, there is a very large contingent of 'sceptical' scientists. A House of Lords select committee recently criticised the IPCC for 'strangling dissent.' So keep hold of your marina berth, you'll need it.

Re: More like 200m at most

Agree to a certain extent ... but we do need to be aware of the issues and manage them. To get things done seems to need a certain amount of hype to scare people into action. AFAIA the models predicting either outcome seem equally likely because of the extent of unknown factors .. but one thing is for certain ... the ice in the polar regions is diminishing at an ever faster rate .. and politicians are doing nothing.

where TB has effectively killed off Kyoto and any follow up to it.

Re: More like 200m at most

Most of the dissent appears to come from the US. No surprises there, then.

I understood that it's not the additional volume of water that might be added to the oceans but the volumetric expansion of the water due to increased temp. But then, I'm just another of the poor ignorant masses who wants to be able to make sense of what's going on but can't trust any of the science because it's not free from political taint.

We've all been lied to so consistantly over the years nobody believes anybody any more.

If I were selfish..... I would be grateful that
the North Downs still exists.......cos that is where
my new house is...... I'll be able to moor "Miracle"
at the end of the garden by the look of
that map.......Perhaps I should buy a little more land
for friends to share etc

Regards Briani

A 2000 meter rise would cover all of the UK and most of Erope except the Alps. I think a realist figure is more like 3 to 4 metres....

The map shows a 68m rise which seems to be the accepted figure I NEVER MENTIONED 2000m rises except in a quote from another poster - quit attributing that figure to me"

Oooh missed that .. however does show that general awareness levels are starting to be prodded ... It was also raised on a climbing forum I look at.

Funnily enough most owners of big MoBos seem to think global warming is a load of bo**ocks . . . I wonder why?

You noticed that too!

If I interpret your piccy.....

....correctly, then this new look UK will mean I can moor my boat in Darvel, just 4 miles down the Irvine valley from here. Saves that tedous 40 minute drive. Great.

Re: If I interpret your piccy.....

Hell.... 68m.....

I was hoping that I could moor outside my bedroom window, and use the kitchen window to inspect my keel....

But given that my house sits at precisely 1m above sea level, then maybe I'm knackered......

Interesting bit of science on the way home tonight on Radio 4 talking about how European plants produced 30% more CO2 than they consumed in 2003 during the hot summer, as rotting vegetation outweighed the Photosynthetic abilities of plants given their stunted growth through lack of water and too much heat... scary.... talk of a tipping point.....
