What\'s a fiddle??

This months MB&Y, while reviewing the Linssen says (p90) "If I could change just one thing it would be to fit fiddles everywhere"
Maybe one on the wall but everywhere!!

As I understand it, fiddles are the ornate little rails that upstand from any shelf!

Fiddles are what keep things on shelves and tables when the boat moves around. More familiar to raggies, perhaps, but essential on any proper boat. There is considerable debate about the design of fiddles - they should be a certain height, they should have a vertical inner face, they should be discontinuous so that crumbs can be easily brushed off the surface. Some are even removable for harbour use.
They can also be used for playing country music, or for making money without working.
You probably wish you hadn't asked!

it's what marinas do when they charge you thousands for a pontoon for a year and evry time you go out for a spin they hire "your" pontoon out to someone else. neat really.
