Is there a list anywhere that just simply lists all the questions you should ask when you're buying a boat? Including all the basic ones in addition to the less obvious ones that novices like myself would probably just not ask.

Thanks for any help.

No it wont. Can you lay down and watch the telly if you want to. Your parner as well?? Or is it sit up and beg type stuff. Rounded seats look awfull posh. But can you actualy use them??. Is there a comfey seat for the driver or navigator/ wife. Or are they looking sideways on this posh seat and ffling quite sick?? Is this boat actualy built for going any where. One day you will. Or if no intwntion ofr going anywhere. Most boats are built for that!

have available ALL the bills of sales and changes of ownership since new. this is the only way to check ownership and confirm all parties have been settled. any finance company will need this.

If they can't be shown walk away.

There are books written on this subject so there numerous things that could go on a list, many of the points would have subsections etc. Go to the RYA website for a start and see what that reveals.

Thought for today; Buy in haste; repent at leisure - so take plenty of time and allow for alot of dissapointment and travel.

Good luck.

Re:Little Red riding boater and the wolfs lair..

Unfortunately there does not exist a standard "what to ask" guide to boat purchase.
However the opportunity arises for you to be stitched up in ways that horse dealers and the sellers of motor vehicles can only dream about.
Get all the help you can from this forum. If you buy right it is great fun and a bit of a challenge, above all do not buy someone elses grief.
Most boats mainly suffer from neglect not use.

The first question to ask is to yourself and that is: "Am I stark staring mad with more money than sense?". If you can truly answer "yes", then go ahead and buy old thing and end up just like the rest of us!

Welcome to the forum. I think one of the key questions is one you need to ask yourself - "what do I want the boat to do for me" ie how/where will you use it, what sort of trips, what do you want out of it etc etc - then a logicl list of questions should follow to ensure that the boat you're looking at fits the bill. Good luck!

Walk to the edge of the slipway, take large bag of money from inside jacket pocket,...weight it with suitable heavy rock and hurl it as far as.........(repeat as often as nec. usually twice a year!) /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

good advice below. Detailed questions must surely depend rather hugely on the size, brand, model of boat. If you are super-unsure, i wonder if you cd get a surveyorish chap to act as your buying agent, negotiate the deal and so on?

There are some terribly cynical folk on this forum !
Teasing you with tales of endless cash flow problems, and bank accounts never to be seen again.
Ignore all this! If you are at all like the rest if us on this forum a boat will probably be the best thing you spend money on, giving endless hours of fun and a degree of sanity. Ignore it I say but remember one thing everything my fellow boating enthusiasts say is 100 % correct. You too are "DOOMED"
