ICC and CEVNI ............. items I have avoided for years .... now its caught up with me !! It's either that or Yacht Captains Licence from Latvia or Estonia ......... as they do not stipulate Nationality as the ICC does......

[/ QUOTE ]From a posting on another thread, it looks as though the ICC is available to bona fide UK residents. In any case, if you have a UK address it shouldn't matter. After all, if they ever had to question whether you are qualified it would sound daft in a court for them to argue that you are not properly *qualified* because you are the wrong nationality!

Re: Thoughts to ponder ....

Why do you want an ICC anyway? You only need it if your boat is over 15m or (CEVNI) if you go on the French (or a few German) canals. Its not needed in Holland or anywhere in Scandanavia. I've never, ever, been asked for mine. I'm not sure anyone would know what it was.

ICC / CEVNI

As I understood it - Kiel Canal would be a required location to have both .....
And if I took inland waterways say in Holland etc. ?

I don't mind getting a 'ticket' to show qualified to sail a boat - its just that having gone through Lifeboatmens ticket, Merchant Nay Deckie, life on all sorts of boats etc. - I was a bit reluctant to do it .....

It would actually be easier for me to go for the full blown Yacht Captains out here in terms of time and availability .... which incidentally is quite a ticket to get .... its a serious bit of kit .......... don't get me wrong - I believe that the Yachtmasters etc. are serious etc., but having seen a few of my Baltic pals go through the mill .... !!

Oh well .... I'm sure no-one will ever ask for it .... but good to have it ....

Re: ICC / CEVNI

You dont need an ICC for either the Kiel Canal or Holland. The full rules are on the RYA's website here

The ICC is the 'lowest common denominator' and requires a short boat maneuvering test. If you have one of the RYAs basic tickets (e.g. Day Skipper) you can get the ICC without a test, and the CEVNI test is a simple multiple choice paper.
