what to do with surplus boat kit

Thanks for the replies. This wasnt an attempt to sell things off now - I havent even got a list of what I need to shift at the moment. More a case of being in the ,middle of clearing my M-I-Ls stuff and thinking " I mustn't leave my mess to the kids like she has".

My personal strategy when upgrading stuff is to put the old stuff in my garage for a few years until it's completely outdated and useless. Then donate it to the local sailing club boat jumble so that they can dump it when it hasn't sold.
A further refinement is to then look on ebay and find that some of the things are selling for ££££££s [notably, bronze fittings, Wykeham Martin furlers and Lucas magnetos].
I'm not sure it's a good strategy!

Ebay is a lot of effort for small items.

I took 25 years of accumilated old gear to a boat jumble and sold it cheaply just to get rid . In the end I cleared a couple of hundred quid. Its worth getting an inside pitch if you can and pricing everything up (say 25% of new price) Other stuff also went such as old tilley lamps, cigarette lighters, portholes recovered from wrecks in the deep and distant past etc.

I was gifted a number of small sailing items by a friend of retired years who while keen golfer and cyclist had no use for various books, ropes and such like. I’m sure if the op looks around he might find a few friends still sailing grateful for the items on a gratis basis as you can never have too many sheets and books surely.
