What to do with old liferaft?

My canister-type ocean liferaft is now 15 years old and when it was serviced in the spring, I was told that would probably be its last year. So I'm going to buy another.

Is there anything I might do with the old one, other than take it to the tip?

Might be some use to your local yacht club as an inwater liferaft training aid? Or Sea scouts? or similar, somewhere they do liferaft training anyway!

It would be nice to think that some establishment could make use of it for training purposes in a controlled indoor pool environment.

well, unless you can get a training company to use it, is it utterly illegal to let it off at the end of a pontoon? At least then you could take piccies of it to show crew what it's actually actually like, and you could have a nice sit inside eating erm, 15-year old chocolate. All participants must then help drag it down the skip...

Lots of jolly fun to be had by inflating it, towing out to a nice anchorage, on a calm day, and then having a nice party on the liferaft. Lots of other people will join the fun by "saving" you, and inviting you on board for drinks when they realise that not too many liferaft survivors would hang out at Alum bay. Towing a liferaft in would also guarante you an excellent berth anywhere, anytime, altho it wd proably be best to have a "survivor" on board the liferaft wearing sponsored racing t-shirt whom you can magically and brutally resuscitate with whisky when safely moored up. "Pull yourself together you wimp!"

Find a scenic country lane and dump it in the hedgerow, along with the fridge and sofa I got rid of last weekend!

They create homes for wildlife and compost down after a few hundred years.
You know it makes sense!

Launch it in the Serpentine at midnight. Stay aboard and talk in a funny made up language to anyone who approaches. You should be able to sell your story for oodles to the Sun as the alien who had to ditch out of a UFO over London.

Stephen - great suggestion - take the family camping, and go for short sails in a tent. Briliant. Over to you Vango.
