you run a business where recommendations of vessel size vs motor size is important so I am sure you often install 1,000 watt windlass on 20t yachts. You are obviously, as I can deduce from your comments, an expert and I bow to your greater knowledge. However you will excuse me if I say that if you are serious about installing 1000watt windlass on 20t yachts - the I would not want to use your services.

It's OK, i'm used to people resorting to insults, innuendo and general derogatory posts about my professional abilities when they can't come up with anything useful to post.

Just for clarity, i never suggested fitting a 1000w windlass on a 20t boat, i suggested a 1000w windlass for the OPs boat, the same as my previous boat, which was very similar to the OPs boat. My current boat is 20t, but is fitted with a 1500w windlass, i still won't drag it along with the windlass.

Once the chain is vertical and made fast, any movement, back forward or sideways, will eventually break out the anchor. (Unless it's fouled under an immovable object).
Agree. If I have to induce that movement with the engine I always use reverse, works just as well as forwards but does not result in the chain damaging the topsides.
