T.V. aerial for use on a small 23ft boat which will pick up digital TV and radio?
There seem so many about - I was thinking of one like a flying saucer but have been told that the best would be a straight one like on a house - but wouldn't that need moving every time we tie up.

I've got a flying saucer one and it is about as much use as a broken arm!

Bob, thank you for posting the question i was going to ask tomorrow...!

Interesting what the response has been so far! I thought the dish type were the way to to go....

Does anyone think this might be better..?

Its not a case of which aerial you should choose as there is very little difference between them as far as actually receiving the signal is concerned, more to the point is how and where it should be pointed and it would be handy to know where the nearest TV transmitter is.Try this website as a starter

Then the idea is to get the aerial as high as possible and to avoid trying to receive the signal through any objects such as buildings or dense tree cover, this may be difficult on the water as you are usually at the lowest point in the area. Finally check the connections are good.

Thanks guys I thought it would be easy but it seems that I need to fix an external aerial on top of the pylon that the pontoon slides up and down on then run the cable back to my berth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will just suck it and see and possibly borrow a sample of both types to see which works

It's a complete lottery, Bob. We have a flying saucer thing (Glomex) with a freeview box that worked brilliantly in Christchurch but not at all in Hythe, even though we were only 5 miles from the sodding transmitter. We use a satellite dish now and bring the Sky card from home. It obviously doesn't work at anchor, but on a pontoon only takes a few minutes to set up.

Hello Bob,
We have a flying saucer ( also a Glomex, I think). Works well, but have to do a new program scan on freeview set each time we moor!
