In my seemingly endless search for a larger boat, I have come across this Windy 8800. What I am looking for is a performance boat that will also serve as a cruiser. It has to have reasonable facilities ie sea toilet, 4 person accomodation cooker fridge etc. Until now, I have always thought along the lines of Bayliner 2655 (1997) with a budget of £20 - 25k. The reason behind this is that you get a lot of space etc for your money. But then I saw this for a shade under £20k. Here is what the advert says...

Twin Volvo 4.3 Ltr 205 HP V6 Petrol engines (Fitted new in 1999) driving Volvo 290 Duo Prop Legs, Professional LPG Conversion in 1999 with 440Lts LPG capacity. EXCELLENT (OVER 45 KTS) PERFORMANCE TOGETHER WITH REASONABLE RUNNING COSTS WITH THE LPG FUEL CONVERSION (ONLY 30P PER LITRE!!). 2+2 ACCOMODATION WITH SEPARATE HEADS COMPARTMENT.

I know Windy's to be a good (Norwegian?) make. What do my learned friends on this panel think.

Can I cruise on it? Does it have reasonable 4 person accom? Has it got a cooker / fridge? Anything else I need to know?....yes, of course I would have it surveyed!

Cheers folks

\"Windy 8800\"?

Windys are widely regarded as having outstanding build quality, deservedly so. On some models the styling is a bit iffy, but they're well screwed together. The 8800 is excellent however and doesn't suffer from dodgy styling. From that era they all have cream gelcoat and some can look dull just for that reason, but they're fine if polished up and clean. The one you mention sounds very good value as there's one on http://www.essexboatyards.co.uk that is same age, lpg conv, petrol mercruisers, and older engines, for £23+k. This one has nice teak floor but that would only cost £1500 to fit and half that if diy.

Obviously you are talking petrol not diesel here but I wont start that debate, and at least they are lpg converted

Here's a pic

Go on, buy it!

Windys were (are) great boats with excellent sea keeping qualities. The design unlike many of today's design will never be dated.
