For those of you who've followed the restoration of Wraith, Due to pressures of work I'm no longer able to find the time to complete the job.

Engine knackered, but lots of work done, what is a sensible price to ask as there is no way I'll be able to do anything on her this year and would rather let her go than spend another year looking at a list of jobs to do with no time to do them. As I have my own mooring I want to sell her as is and get something I can enjoy sailing in the limited time I have free. Regards, Mike.

Would you not be better getting a survey done which could include a value bassed on its current state of restoration?
then you would have an asking price and a survey to show any prospective buyer.
Incidently what is she? Looks like an Elizebethan.

Might not be worth getting a survey, depending on what needs done e.g. engine a definite. Sails, mast rigging, transport costs? might only be worth a grand.

I think she's a Shipman 28.

[/ QUOTE ]I agree. Little doubt /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Lovely looking boat Mick, and the Shipman 28 has an excellent reputation. Hard to put a value on her without some idea of the condition (or existence?) of rig, sails, instruments and deck gear.

Good point, Her mast was replaced with a brand new one about 8 yrs ago, just last year I fitted new alluminium windows, re-wired her re-finished the interior, new speed/wind/depth insruments, new loo, new water tank, new upholstery, new battery, new bilge pump, new cutlass and rudder mounts, hull dried out and preventative epoxy treatment applied, there are about 10 sails, If I want to sail this year then she will have to go to free up my mooring for something else.

That's better, now she looks like she is worth something. Looks like not too much to get her finished. Compare with others the same that are for sale. Take off 3-4k for an engine, decide how much you want put her on Boatsandoutboards, Appoloduck etc, All free to advertise.

There is (or was) a big shipman 28 fleet in Dublin, but I have noticed that they are starting to struggle to sell and the prices are dropping. I would guess advertise for £10k and accept £8K bottom line?

What prompted the post was the fact that I put her on Boatsandoutboards.com

Shipman 28

To date I've not had a single response, Whilst I'm willing to drop the price to move her on I am wondering if the price I was asking was unrealistic or whether I should try advertising elsewhere. Mike.

I'm sorry to read your story as we were in contact a while ago re the Faryman engine.
Unfortunately you're going to miss out on sailing/cruising a cracking boat, and it looks like you may not get a just price for her.
I don't suppose there's anything I can say to make you persevere with her?
Whatever happens, good luck Mike.

What a shame. Like the others say, you're stuffed. Unless it's in ready to go condition you will struggle to get a buyer. Anyone who is tempted is after a bargain basement price.
Couldn't you put her back on the hard and get a couple of grand's worth of old yacht to sail off your mooring?

Oh what a shame, no idea as to price as is.

But if anybody is interested, Shipmans are lovely boats, sail well, seakindly and point extremely well. Accommodation is pretty well laid out, ideal for two. More with a bit of juggling.

The original engine was a Faryman with hydraulic drive and put out about 12hp (IIRC) and pushed her along very nicely.

I don't think the transom design would lend itself to an outboard bracket arrangement.

The day I sold mine was a sad day /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

Put it on ebay france - if you have a look at sailing boats on ebay.fr they hold good money and a lot of froggies are well into sailing without inboards -

I agree - you'll not get anything like what she stands you at. TBH I guess you might struggle to sell her for a sensible price even once completed - there are too many other old boats around at give away price levels. And its like with cars - a project that cant yet be used is never worth very much.

In your place I'd finish off the engine , rig her and do nothing else but make her seaworthy and then enjoy her
