Blue Angel has a old Italian "Marco" Electronic whistle
with orriginal certificate, conforming MCA and RINA regulations,
(it seems this certificate is Obligatory for RINA coding)
For Belgium commercial coding, we just need a "horn", no further specs given.

This Marco whistle generates a rather annoying 700Hz tone,
and the horn looks old and ugly

while re arranging the antenna's on the FB, I would like to put something more modern.
What would you sugest ?
What do you have ?

What do you mean by "electronic"? Doesn't it have an air compressor somewhere?
Mine's also a Marco (pretty popular around here), but pneumatic - see here.
And the tone is, well, I would say a proper one, though I never measured the Hz... :)
Anyway, Marco has a rather wide range of horns you can choose from, if you wish to stick with the same manufacturer.
Fwiw, mine is still in pretty good conditions after 15 yrs of almost constant exposure to the elements, and still works flawlessly with zero maintenance.

PS: I forgot to mention that, RINA requirements aside, many of their horns are also BV approved (see description in my previous link).

I have one of these;

And use it to open the footbridge every time I leave or enter the Harbour. Very good seagull scarer too. Perhaps not exactly "modern" but then why would I want that? It has given me some 25 years stout service & provided much amusement & entertainment for the children & now G-kids.

Yep, I can imagine.
I also have onboard something like that. Probably even cheaper, but a bit more modern - see below.
The trouble with it is that you actually must hide it if you have kids onboard, because it's UNBELIEVABLY loud.
Borderlining on dangerous actually, if a kid has the great idea to blow in it near the ears of someone. Been there, done that...

I have one similar to Searush's.

Only used seriously once. 1979 early May off Bembridge in a real pea-soupper.
Something large came round the ledge towards me.

It has to be at least two of these, suitably synched to a massive array of Lumishore lights

If you got a couple of these

and some smaller lights for the tender you could re-enact Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Sea Rush will just adore this, I can tell.....

I am fed up with electric horns and I am looking to fit a Kahlenberg air horn which has a small electric compressor about the size of a tin of beans.

See Piers of this parish for details.

There are some great videos on U TUBE where people fit train horns on trucks and go out scaring pedestrians **** less.

Just remember that the compressor needs to produce sufficient pressure and amount if you omit an air tank.

The smallest compressors available are in reality useless. Claim high pressure ability but takes an hours get there.

Kahlenberg D-0A twin takes 17.6 CFM @ 100 psi.

Just decided to upgrade. Will fit an automatic timer to sound the horn in proper intervals, in addition to the normal pushbutton.

Velleman Kit VM188 seems suitable ;)

Thank you all so much for this entertaining info,
reading your posts was nice, but selecting a horn while listening to samples was even more fun.

and the winner is.....

a Kahlenberg D-2

depending on price and availability,
I have found a similar model from Marco, reading the specs but no audible sample.

I have no experience with such a compressor,
does it only run when pushung the "horn" button, or does it remain under pressure, and do you operate a valve ?
