About 8 years ago a new boat arrived 6 berths away , well one cold night I walked past and there was water pouring out of the side of the hull , so notify the marina to contact the owner , the next day the Marina told me he had switched the heating on remotely, hey ho.

Hitting rocks in the Menai Strait
Hitting sandbanks there too
Hitting the throttle at the wrong moments
Hitting all the Piers in the Strait regularly
Losing an anchor cos I stuck it over the blunt end an it got stuck
It’s been a long 79 years learning curve
AND still learning😂😱
Oh yeh as well
A ‘Client’ asked me go fuel his merry fisher 625 up with fuel
There were two identical ‘side by side’
Yeh
You guessed it!

Pulled away from the pontoon with shore power cable attached. It ripped the socked off the pontoon so I had to go the the marina office to confess.

So Many!
But worse incident on my first boat replacing the gear lever and not testing with engine off, I pushed forward and the boat was going backwards which created a new hatch at the back of the boat,

I must say insurance was brilliant , I told the truth in shame and they paid up!

Yarmouth Harbour, spring tide on the ebb, took several unsuccessful attempts to put my boat on a finger berth. Eventually ended up side on on the bows of a couple of mobo's. Had to be pulled off by a couple of the harbour chaps (ooh er!!) No damage done thankfully. The whole saga witnessed by a packed harbour. oh! the shame...

1) being seen socialising with a Stoke fan.

2) Embarrassment by association. Couple of young crewmates not knowing how to operate an inflatable tender in a strong ebb. Ended up with one paddling, and the other [re]pumping it up as they went. In the panic, one knocked open the air valve and they started sinking. Rescued by a local fisherman much to the amusement of the shoreside pub drinkers!

Coming alongside a pontoon singlehanded I leapt out of the cockpit with a midship spring in hand.

Unnoticed, I had accidentally kicked the engine control into 'ahead'.

The boat carried on, towing me along the pontoon.

Fortunately the pontoon was a long one, with no other boats on it.

I sprinted ahead and managed to get a couple of turns with the spring around a cleat before disaster struck.

Which little genius in the boat design office was responsible for this little gem.....have had boats from Princess and Broom with that special feature and suffered the results as well....in both directions.
Not sure which is the worse.
and guess what about the latest boat , just lets say one cap is now painted bright RED and the other about 20 cms away bright Blue , this will of course ensure the problem never ever occurs again ?

I hear you brother. Its taken a while for my rep and creds to climb from "untouchable" to just social pariah.

My funniest has been recanted many times but most embarrassing was quite recent. Chemobrain or stupiditity, I prefer the former, I forgot to strap the tender in the davits and in a beam swell of large proportions the tender swamped and broke its lifting lines dragging like a parachute in the water bringing me from an exhilirating 20 knots to a dead stop fast enough to spill the gin. I gave controls to the admiral while I gingerly made way to a now violentley heaving boat in the choppy swell and instructed her to back up so I could reach the tender. Only the tender painter made from Dyneema was long enough to be sucked in and foul both outdrives thus rendering a completely redundant systems boat that I always boasted about at every opportunity completely redundant.

A callout was neccessitated thanks to the rough seas making a dive under the swimplatform a no go and we sat there with the crew getting seasich from the battering while the Admiral and I glared at each other trying to decide who to apportion blame to and by how much. I say she was at the controls and acting skipper.

A grand reception was being held on a first floor terrace overlooking the marina, This was to celebrate the opening of the block of boat-sales offices.
We had been there a few months prior to opening operating out of temporary accommodation.
Reception in full swing a remark to my boss, Isn't that one of your boats approaching ? Oh yes that's so and so we sold last week just being commissioned and going on it's mooring. He was beeming.
WITH Bravado I swung into the fairway between the rows of finger pontoons Immediately in front of the assembled hob nobs.
Down the fairway a little too quickly both controls into reverse both drives flipped up so straight on to the cross walkway stopped with a good 6ft of bow on walkway.
Great applause.

to spill the gin.

The admission you drink Gin 🍸 is the most embarrassing thing about that anecdote.

I was always worried you were going to steal my ale from the bilge during the middle! I shouldn't have been 😜

Hope all is well on Amanzi, been a while!

Rodders when I fly past him , he always says the admiral was at the controls , while he is sipping his tonic , no gin.

Not me, but told to me this morning whilst out on another boat.

My friend Mr. T has two very nice motor boats. One is an AMT 2000 moored in the small marina in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. He and his family had arrived back on their berth after a nice spin out in the Straits and were sat having cockpit drinks. Another small motorboat came in at some speed down between their pontoon and the next one and at same speed, turned into a berth and doinged a boat that was already there, stopping dead. The skipper, alone on the boat got very red faced as he reversed back down the leg with a lot of people watching. He then went down the next leg where there actually was a gap where he keeps his boat.....

Only damage was to ego.
