What happened to Lucy from \'Faking It\'

Does anyone know what happened to Lucy from 'Faking It'. Will she ever be heard of again? Or has her fame ended? - I know its a long time since she was last mentioned.

She bought a 42ft Legend, entered the ARC and scuttled the boat half way across
. . .

I read recently (Chay Blyth's column in "All at Sea" I think) that she got a job on a ferry somewhere in the Med as a steward - so it would appear to be not much of a jump forward as this was the same as her previous job for P&O that she was trying to escape from. I also seem to remember that she was trying to get into TV.

All to the best of my recollection.

I'd quite liked Faking It up to that programme, but I as soon as it was about something I knew a bit about, the whole programme showed itself as a bit of a fake and I couldn't get into it again! The final 'race' where she was just running about the boat shouting 'tack' and 'trim' while a decent helm got on with steering and a navigator/tactician called where to go, made it completely pointless.

Much better was the famous Chris Searle 'In at the Deep End' from donkeys years ago where he prepared (over a decent period of time) to skipper a boat in the Fastnet - he failed to complete the race (put in at Plymouth if I remember correctly) but at least it was an honest effort and was before the days that 'reality' TV was rigged to make it more entertaining.

I think the problem was probably lack of time to teach her all the stuff needed to skipper a boat in a race. I agree that much of it had to be stage managed.

She was a game girl and I think most of us enjoyed it. The best bet for me was fooling many of the judges and so called experts.

She may be around your own age and you might stand a chance. I would suggest giving it a go. Cheap flights to the Med at the moment.

I have always suffered being a handsome brute but I am willing to stand aside on this occasion.

However, I still have a crush on Hayley MIlls and would like you to do the decent thing by allowing me to run solo on this one.

That's my point, she 'fooled' the judges and experts because she had a decent helm and navigator/tactician. Not that I want to overdo the point on something that's just light entertainment, but linking it to previous threads about the merits of Fast Track courses, it did suggest that in a fortnight you can learn all you need to about skippering a boat, which ain't exactly right.

Must say I disagree.. I also ride and have done competitively and the Faking It Showjumping programme was a pretty honest attempt.. she (can't remember her name) failed

I agree the greater timescale for the In At the Deep End series was I think a better format.

Are there any television producers/directors on the forum? - there is definitely potential for a documentary following random people learning to skipper production yachts... and then singlehanding.

I agree, Ohdrat. "Faking It" worked when the volunteers were dependent on their own skills. The ones where they were in a team of any sort were far less convincing. So, "well done" to the stuntman and the showjumper and "everyone in the Scuttlebutt nation give respect" to the classical cellist who became a DJ
