What finish to use on Teak Rubbing strip

Once you've done a few turns of the lake ... surely no need for any depth instruments ??

[/ QUOTE ] Strangely the depths vary enormously. Some shore lines are but a few feet and other are over 60 feet. The middle of the lake can be 200 feet or in some places 12 feet. The worst of it is that (and depth sounders are no good in these cases) there can be bloody great rocks in odd places so that 5 feet under the keel suddenly translates as "graunch".

Frankly I've always found holding my breath works best. Luckily it's only been in other people's boats that I've damaged the rocks.

I used to have my weekender on a lake out here ... Narbus Lake (held the European record for cleanest lake water for years .... till I arrived !! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) ...
I needed actually an E/S there ... for similar reason.

The post was actually a leg-pull - nothing intended ...

Microporous products tend to last but spoil the appearance.

Teak Oil tends to blacken.

John Watkinson (Drascombe designer) said that the best thing to put on teak is salt water!

But if you want a nice appearance try Deks Olje - not No 1 on its own as that doesn't seem to last a full season but No1 followed by No 2. Had this on my transom for 3 yrs now and its still like new - the full treatment is a lot of coats though.

As promised in prev. reply to this post ....

Here are photos of my boat with the work I am doing on my strakes ... ( and the addition of stylised Name on bow ......)
Photo 1 : Strake as before with heavy coated paint from previous owner ... (ok it's lasted 8 yrs !! but UGH ! )

Photo 2 : Strake sanded back from full coated brown paint and then micropore applied ... (noter test location for new name sticker !!)

Photo 3 : A look along the side showing the sanded and micropored strake ... which I expect to look similar 6 months .. year later ...

Photo 4 : Close up of stern 1/4 after sanding and micropore ...

You may also note /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif that the hull is remarkably white ! Not SA's normal colour /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif when seen last few years in Solent ... but the ol' Cillit Lime and Rust Remover that I posted about before has certainly done a fine job ...

IMHO ... I don't see much wrong with that ... a 1975 boat that's had a hard life .. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
