After seeing how the forum reacts to 'what next skip' I thought we could all run a series of 'what did you do next Skip'

The difference being true life events but instead of trying to give the correct answer of what should have been done , the forum try to deduce what the forum member actually did, a sort of cross between

what next skip
and
where is this

I am happy to start the series, and lets be gentle in the hope others will also fess up /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

After a 110 nm mile F6 cruise in a Fairline Corniche I was wet through, much of the journey had been on the nose and each wave smacked me in the face before finding its way down my neck, the rest of the wave settled on my seat where I soaked it up like a sponge.

The corniche was on legs and wasn't going to finger berth in a F6 which was now enhanced with the late afternoon sea breeze.

Raft/Pile mooring was just the answer to avoid stress and damage /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The HM directed us to berth along side a 40 ft sailing boat, and then he disappeared /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Wind was forcing us on, current was forcing us on, fenders were out, perfect /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We gently went along side and swmbo leaned over and put a bow line on the yachts bow cleat.
I was just on my way down from the flybridge when the Yacht skipper came on deck with a wooden/metal boat hook.
yacht skipper
'You can not moor here'

swmbo
'the berthing master has just directed us here and the rest of the harbour is full'

Yacht skipper
'you will have to go'

swmbo shouts to me
'He says we can not stay'

yacht skipper now takes swmbos line off and throws it back on our deck
then gets his boat hook and pushes us off and back so the current starts to push us onto the next raft of boats.

What did Daka do next

Skillfully held the boat along side using a combination of engines and current, giving you sufficient time to have a reasoned discussion with the saily skipper eventually resulting in him seeing sense and you all settled down to a G&T to celebrate

Hi Daka

Your variation on WNS looks as if it will be very popular and entertaining. I look forward to others's contributions.

You have the advantage over WNS in that there is definitely only ONE correct answer: the one that actually happened!

Best wishes
Tony

No, no , no Al, I am not the confrontational type, more the, wait for it to be dark before I take a slash in his water filler /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Not meant as a serious reply /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Jez is a little closer and I am quick to forgive and forget but the current/wind and outdrive corniche isn't as forgiving as that.

Hi Tony,

Apologies for the apparent rip off of your popular series , you can take revenge once I fess up to what I did /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

cheers
Pete

I had a similar situation at the weekend which reminded me, it will be useful to know the text book response as to how one is supposed to deal with this sort of situation perhaps after everyone has had a good laugh at me you can enlighten us as to what I should have done ?

Plus,, you did state your weren't at the helm, when he let your ropes go, So i still maintain, he put your Boat and crew in danger!!

So my serious answer is run like [--word removed--] back to helm, and hold the boat steady while you try reason with him, that failing, on radio to harbour master for another berth, or too come over and sort the other skipper out!
While he does that move out into clearer safer waters waiting for the next course of action.

Al.

No time to vhf/call HM, windage on a corniche is significant, no bow thruster , outdrives and engines to aft lift the bow clear of the water so she slides around like a bit of polystyrene.

Re: What did you do next Skip (i)

1. Tie up to the next raft you've been pushed onto.
2. Return to flybridge to enjoy curmudgeonly yottie's next performance. (He won't get any peace until someone's successfully rafted onto him.)

I shouldn't bother about it. In a few days you'll have forgotten the incident, whereas these Victor Meldrew types live a permanently miserable existence; forever worrying in case someone rafts up on them or parks in front of their drive or throws a fag packet in their garden. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I'll live with both the last answers.

Salty Tea is a sign of poor seamanship.... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Could I ask whether the replies suggesting some form of violence as a payback for the moored skipper's refusal: assault with fists or boathook, throwing someone in the water or urinating in their water tank - are serious?

If so, I think that it would be a very sad situation.

I expect that they are just light-hearted banter, though.

Look, just because it's Daka doesn't mean no-one else can troll does it? I'll be round with my wet fish shortly. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
