Apologies for probably repeating lots of previous postings.. but i am about to lift the boat out of the water and will need to antifoul the hull... 19 foot GRP motor cruiser sitting in and sailing on salt water river orwell and north sea.

Thanks in advance!

Craig.

If you search for past postings on Scuttlebutt and this site you will get lots of information.

There has been a lot of praise for Jotun. Is confirmation of Jotun's product quality the fact that the French have apparently awarded the contract to them for the re-paint of the Eiffel Tower after 5 years paint testing? (I know this isn't being antifouled!)

The French using a British paint on their national monument!!!!

Re: British?

Agreed - but the HQ for Europe is in London and I understand that the work for this contract was carried out in the UK. I may be wrong.

The right anti-fouling can be a very local decision. Different products seem to suit some local conditions better than others, depending on things like salinity, water-borne nutrients, speed of currents, temperature, etc. Worth asking a local boatyard or chandler what's the local favourite.

I am based on the Medway. Used Plastimo 1.2 last year with excellent results. Works well in high fouling areas. Half the price of International. Don't paint on the outdrive though and leave a 1" band clear of paint around the housing.

Success of various brands of antifoul vary enormously from place to place - Blakes Cruising works brilliantly here in Chichester harbour, but Internationals Boot-topping actually seems to encourage Chi's green weed to grow!

Ask round local boat owners, and check round the yards at haul out time - some boats will be significantly cleaner than others at the end of the season. Find out what AF they used - and that will be the best for your particular area!
