Whisper

What you say is absolutely correct, Mass and his tormenters were ill mannered, that is what I’m protesting about.
If you look at my posts I don’t do nasty, yet it’s a one way street. In return for me putting in a bit of content I have had to take a disproportionate amount of abuse.
Having spent half my life in the Navy and the other on or associated with building sites it’s water off a ducks back, and I enjoy the crack. Also I have a lot of boating experience so I’m not in awe of anyone.
My point is, look at the posting at the beginning of this thread from James he only came on to thank everyone and ended up leaving thinking we`re all a crowd of tossers.
Something wrong here

Winding everyone up, being rude and offensive about people you hardly know, knocking the system 'cos it doesn't suit you, - you seem to have the full set.

I find this forum very informative, funny, sometimes irritating and occasionally the debate gets a bit heated. If you don't like the people on here or the way it works don't log on.

Somebody somewhere else in this thread said it is a microcosm of society, it is, and society in general eventually tends to work out who are a***h**es and excludes them naturally.

Beware.

Blackfeather, a short search through your history of posting says it all. There is a wonderful new facility on this new software. It's called the ignore button. Bye bye, you are the weakest link.

Re: Ang On A Bit More

As it happens, I actually agree with a lot of what you are saying, and have thought the same for some time. There are those on here who consider themselves "self" appointed moderators, but, by the same token, the way in which you have "introduced" yourself onto the forum I also find objectionable. Your stance has appeared to be deliberatley combative and I'm asking myself the question as to how you would behave in a personal situation.

Take the sceanrio where a group of people who have known one another for some time who have built up an understanding og how the group operates - and this group is made up of many different personalities - suddenly finds someone who "gatecrashes" into the group casting aside the need to understand the dynamics of how the group operates. Then continually aggresively attacks the group. I have a feeling that that individual would end up with a bloody nose or the group moves off somewhere else, or just simply ignores the individual not on the bases of what that individual says, more the manner and tone in which it is said.

There is without doubt a silent majority who are members of these forums who are regualr viewers and who post very little, if at all, for fear of being made to feel small. I find this a shame because I'm sure they could bring a lot to the "party". I'll be honest and say that I learn very little from the majority of posts on here, sometimes a gem comes along but they are few an far between; in fact, a lot of stuff that gets said is just plain bad information. There are those who post on here with very sound advice, but those less well informed contradict that advice - the issue raised over anodes is a case in point. There are also those that ask/post things where to be honest I wonder how they have the intelligence to earn sufficient money to have the boats they have! A lot of it I chose to ignore and just move on too something else - life's to short. Hmm, why am I taking time to post this I ask myself? Oh well, I've started so I'll finish!

You refer to a clique operating on here, I think to a degree you are probably right! I think there is an even bigger one that enjoys boating and a degree of light hearted banter, but sometimes it gets out of hand. I fear that this may well be one of those occassions. Frankly, it's not necessery and I think that some of the older members do really need to grow up a bit, by the same token new members need perhaps to just check out the dynamics a bit more.

In summary I do actually agree with a lot of your points, it's just the way which you have expressed them which I think is in danger of getting a bit out of hand.

Re: Ang On A Bit More

I took some sarcy remarks when I joined. I had asked some questions which were to me, important albeit naive and got several put downs although I had asked in a humble and respectful manner, so i agree that perhaps some sensisivity could be applied to new people's posts unless of course the poster warrants otherwise.

Incidentally, to which anodes discussion do you refer?

James, you could do a great deal to smooth ruffled feathers here if you could let us know who your remark about crap comments and posting rubbish was aimed at.

It seems this lot have all decided to take it personally, and there'll be tears soon, I'm betting.

If it was at Haydn, then with respect, I think you have misunderstood him - most people here are passionate boaters, and most would jump at the chance of playing on a new boat and helping a newcomer out with a delivery - as you found out. The ones who didn't reply, are probably those too far away, or who couldn't spare the time from work.

We also have our fair share of trolls here, so yes, you will get crap, pointless and sarcastic comments, too. You just need to ignore them. But for now, we have a bunch of people feeling that they have been abused by a newcomer, if only they could work out who... I can't tell if Uncle Albert is taking a pop at Haydn (hlb), Brendan, Jimi or Blackfeather, and I suspect neither do they...

Do us a favour and settle it for us, please. Oh, and enjoy the boat.

Re: Biggest Bag Of Scum On Earth

It is quite amaizing how quickly this wonderfull lot has degenerated into scum and low life and no one seems to know why. I've read and reread my original post and I cant see what I said wrong. Just asked for a boaty trip story, did not quite expect this load of abuse, not even sure who's being abused. Or is it colective abuse??

Anyway, what is a clique?? If it means three blokes sat in a local pub, having a chat about some local gosip. And not emediatley inviting some stranger who has just walked in, into the conversation. Course they would first have to fill him in on the whole village history first. Well it dont happen does it. Is that what a clique is though??

Clique of One

If Haydn is part of a clique he's the only one in it because he's upset everyone on this site at one time or another /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I honestly can't see what the fuss is about. I've read his post several times and if someone had posted that to me in reaction to my original post I would have been quite chuffed.

There is no clique on here, we were all newcomers once. There is a degree of familiarity amongst the regular posters (obviously) which may give a bit of licence for blunt comments, leg pulling and disageements but it all adds to the colour of the forum.

I thinnk most people spend a bit of time lurking before actually plucking up courage to post so they normally have a good idea what to expect.

Having said that I still can't see why Haydn's post drew such a reaction.

Are you sure hlb or anyone on the forum deserves a swipe like that ?
It was me who tried to delay your trip.
I am not cleaver enough to be sarcastic, I have poor litteracy skills and not used the spell check to prove it.
I thought the weather forcast was not suitable for anyone at the weekend.
I hope you made it and I hope you enjoyed, if you didn't I hope you arrive safley soon.
I gave you a genuine offer of help which still stands(conditions suitable)
I will make no further coments on this subject in respect for the families of the 4 people who lost their lives on the water at the weekend including 2 in rough seas less than 70nm from where you planned to go.

A very sad DAKA.

Too many links

I recently added the pdf file link. While doing so I actually thought about the rules about hyperlinks in signatures. I had a twinge of guilt at that time and wondered if I should reduce them.

The thing is, 3 of the links are directly related to this forum and they all directly link back to the forum. There is only one personal link to my own web page.

As all the links are on the same personal web page I could of course remove them all and people could search through my site for the posting photo's tutor or the anchor poll which did generate a lot of interest. I know many people ask about posting photographs and are regularly sent to my pages, which is great, that is why I set them up.

Because the subjects are not directly connected to my personal pages, links for them in my site are not obvious and I did not want to put them on my front page.

In summary, I accept completely what you are saying, I too wondered the point and accept a precedence might be made. But I really want a link to my personal web pages, so if I was to dump the others then those looking for the photo tutor would find it much harder to find.

In essence, I do not consider them to be my links but links for the forum users. Maybe that is a really arrogant attitude, but it is meant with best intention.
