Greetings to you all from a long-time lurker (perhaps that could be added to the freqently used acronyms - LTL).

Had a cracking race on Sunday at West Highland Yacht Week. Croabh Haven to Oban through the Sound of Luing and round the back of Kerrera. Blazing sunshine, down wind most of the way, a reasonable amount of wind and about 150 boats. What a sight! There was some really close racing in strongly tidal waters. Plenty of tactics, some astonishing luffing and associated shouting, but most of all fun. It must have been a stunning sight for anybody watching from the shore.

Hello TLOM

Welcome aboard!

You had wind? wasn't much in the Clyde.

I notice that you are in "marine research" may I ask what branch?

regards

There was no wind on the Saturday. Most of the feeder races were canned, only the Oban to Croabh was competed - I heard it was 5 miles covered in 5 hours!!

I'm more into marine environment research rather than marine enginnering - it's not quite head in the clouds stuff but getting that way.

There's a good article in today's Herald about Dennis Conner's old boat Kialoa II in the West Highland.
Apparently they are there for the fun, not to score in the rankings as they are short handed. Only nine in the crew!
Have you seen her yet?
Andi Robertson's piece gives a good impression of the conditions.
Just wish I was there but I'm not on leave until the end of the week. Have a pint for me in the Mishnish if you're doing the Oban-Tobermoray leg.
