We managed a night in The Darthaven , conveniently located and friendly marina crew and looked a good chandlery but the river staff somewhat less helpful but I guess they might be over stretched. Highly rate service at the Dartmouth YC and lovely views sitting on front of the activities of others. We could have rafted on a buoy at Dittisham. Saw the steam train with grockles at the railway station. Not much insolation on ferries though. Subsequently spent day at anchor at Landscome bay - one beach looked heaving but that just along shore more natural and was much more chilled out and peaceful .

River officers on the Dart have always, in my 10 years on the river, been exceptionally helpful. Hopefully that hasn’t changed, maybe one of them was just having a bad day.

Yes I was surprised he had a poor experience with them. We had a first visit a few weeks ago and one of the things that made it so enjoyable was the helpful attitude of the Harbour team. Like you say, hopefully a one off.

During the regatta they get a bit fraught. They have a habit of putting big boats on the inside of rafts (the big boat start line is about an hour with engines full tilt, small boats about 15mins gentle sail). There's carnage first thing because the small boat owners aren't awake/are making breakfast/don't want to move that day due to weather.
