Having heard nothing from the MCA since I applied (and paid) for a renewal Part 1 certificate I thought I'd waste an hour on the phone navigating endless semi-relevant options and listening to a patronising voice telling me how important my call is...
Not a bit of it! Two simple options, Vessel registry press 1 and Seaman's registry press 2.The phone was answered on the very first ring and after a very quick id check and giving them the boat's official number a glitch in tying the payment to the application was found and I was promised a certificate by e-mail in the next few minutes. It arrived as I put the phone down!
Good to see officialdom can manage service like that.

I have always found then very helpful and efficient, wish that could be said of most official bodies in the UK.
I wonder if one of the qualifications for working there is to either be a boat owner or worked on them.

Possibly also have good managers that 'support' the staff in positive ways rather than verbally beating them up.
