works fine on my Sony but you must have sidebands and a fine tuner they do a lite version for evaluation

It plugs into the microphone socket

You can download wxsat from http://www.hffax.de/index.html if you want something thats free.

Its also possible to receive & decode NAVTEX if the radio can be tuned to 518kHz/490khz. I used seatty for that it is shareware and costs something like $29 if you decide to register for it

Pardon me commenting on your footnote (nobody reads mine)

But you might add "...but if you ask you only look foolish for a moment. Don't ask and you stay foolish for life"

Maybe you could add, "Allthough I should never assume anything and rather trust that some people take an interest in similar things to me"

I know your footnote before I read your nickname on the side, like many on here!

Look at franksingleton.claranet.co.uk for lots of information on weather forecasts, sources and uses.

Do a websearch for jvcomm for some excellent software that's a free demonstrator with a very good tuning aid. If you continue to use it you can pay to stop 'demo' from cropping up every so often. It handles rtty, fax and sstv and even good old navtex.

Hi

I'm using the NASA HF3-P - thats the version of the NASA with audio output rather than the one that claims to be for computers but is only compatible with DOS not Windows!. I connected the audio output to audio in on the notebook and got it going no problem. I seem to remember that you had to tune the receiver either 2kHz above or below the 518kHz and its USB, I have the settings written down but on the boat!

Hope that helps.

Chris

Absolutely agree, Seatty is an excellent program and the latest version does weatherfax as well as RTTY/Navtex, works OK in Demo mode but is really worth the very reasonable shareware fee. Also very good for Fax/RTTY is JVComms 32, demo version also usable but registration is more expensive, maybe £50 (?). Seatty and JVComms are easily found with a search.

It is only transmitted at certain times of the day from each aerial. The various stations around the 'Nav Area' all have to share the one frequency.
