We’re having here fun now in F12 in Esbjerg Harbour.
Big wind generator transport vessel, ‘Taipan Scan’, moored in front of us, broke his moorings and went careening across the harbour.
They now have 2 tugs on him but they cannot re-moor him as the water is higher than the mooring bollards and the line men cannot get near them. At one point to avoid being blown on to the far side, he went full ahead to try to turn but it was too late and the wind had him and he rammed the quayside at about 4 knots. He then slewed sideways and fetched up pretty hard against one of the moored supply boats.
He also has 4 or 5 floating hatch covers alongside and one them has broken free and gone round his stern, and could well damage his rudder and prop and the broken tether lines are now round his prop. The remaining covers are being smashed up and down his hull.
The only thing they can do now, as he is now pushed on the lee quay side, is to leave him there with the 2 tugs attached until the weather or tide drops enough to secure him.
