anyone know where I can get reliable forecasts for croatia? have a son there at the mo, local data suggests 50kn, and he needs more info.

There is an automated continuous forecast on VHF from the Italian weather service which is broadcast in english and italian on Channel 68. The sea areas North and South Adriatic are of course the ones relevant to him. The automated voice is, though, terrible to behold. We travelled the length of the Adriatic in 2001 and still hear it ringing in our ears to this day

There are also local coastal forecasts (for Italy) on Chs 25, 26 & 27 broadcast 4 times a day which he might be able to receive.

see my post on Liveaboard section

in croatia he *may* be able to listen to italian vhf broadcast, but Steve is right they are very difficult to decypher (even the section in italian for italian speakers),
also, forecast being continuous and for the whole mediterranean one often has to wait a lot before the relevant zone is read..

Her is official Meteo center in Croatia www.dhmz.htnet.hr (on Eng too) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. Try icon Aladin and you will find winds forecast in N, Central and S Croatia. For Korcula see on South!
On VHF Ch 68 you have also Croatian non stop forecast on 3 languages, but English is always Dalmato Italo English language ( We understand it very well /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
