something we have all probably used, i have never been a great fan and from what i read I'm not alone, has anyone got a product ,home made or otherwise to recommend. Thanks. Kieron

WD40 even do a pfte dry lubricant now so very similar to the McLube Sailkote.

In the past I world also have used RP90 as a penetrating (loosening) oil but it seems like WD40 even have a 'Specialist penetrant' for that now.

WD40 comes in many more flavours than the one Water Displacement flavour that it used to.

Yes, I have a can of WD40 penetrating fluid

i would probably say lubrication
In which case, anything but wd40!

Graphite, dry chain lube, Gt50, 3in1, bicycle chain oil, engine oil, gearbox oil, silicone grease, red rubber grease, any of the grades of normal grease - it depends entirely on what you're lubricating ?‍♂️

The worst thing about the WD products is that the spray container rusts in no time on a boat. I can get 6-12 months out of one and then it's a corroded mess that seems to leak all over the place.

As others have mentioned, there is a hand-full of different products now all badged at WD40. The "WD40 Multi-use Lubricant" which I use as the equivalent of the original stuff is, in my experience, not a brilliant lubricant, but is good, if you spray your engine, etc, as a corrosion inhibitor. but you must shake well before use as the contents separate inside the can.
